Fabric, Notions & More Mid February Newsletter

First off, for the Sit ‘n Knitters, I apologize for mixing up your schedule.  I have it fixed on our website and future newsletters will now accurately reflect the group’s desire to meet EVERY OTHER TUESDAY.  Your next meeting is on February 21st.  Thank you for your graciousness!

We have three special guest classes we are excited to share with you.  Check out the pictures and more information on our website calendar.

1)       Charlotte Freeman is teaching a Perky Nine-Patch class on Wednesday March 21st.  It will be a long day starting a 9am and ending at 4pm.  She asks that you bring your lunch, so you can get the most of what she has to offer – the gift of her time, experience, talent and enthusiasm.  The cost of the class is $50.  We hardly had the class on the schedule before we got sign ups, so don’t delay!

2)      Connie Spanner is teaching a machine embroidery class on the Gecko quilt.  Many have admired it and inquired on a class, so now is your chance.  The dates are Friday and Saturday, March 30 and 31 from 9:30am to 4:30pm.  The cost is $50 for the two days.  Connie is a Bernina and machine embroidery enthusiast, and has been embroidering for many years.  She has experience with many of the Bernina products and is a great resource!

3)      GUESS WHO IS COMING TO TOWN!!!  Paula Reid will be teaching a Free Motion Quilting Boot Camp on April 21st from 9am to 4pm. We are very excited to have her!  Often described as an “artist with a sewing machine”, Paula Reid is a custom heirloom quilting specialist.  She is also a national Bernina instructor.  This class will be particularly helpful to those Bernina owners with the fabulous Bernina Stitch Regulator (BSR).  However, you don’t have to have a Bernina or a BSR to take the class.

This workshop is for people who are tired of stitching in the ditch, have most likely done some free motion but would like to get more proficient with it.  In the morning, we will use stencils in our practice; the afternoon will be spent doing unmarked, or freehand, free motion quilting.  Learning both will mean that the quilter will be able to work on more formal quilts that demand that each motif be identical and also be able to stitch more whimsical, less constrained designs on informal quilts.

Other points of interest:

1)      Our March 2nd Fat Quarter Friday will include a quick Round About. Try out a technique, meet the class instructors who will share a bit about their class, and sign up.

2)      If you have the gift of teaching or a skill you desire to share with students, the demand in our store for your talent is great.  We get requests every day for classes on home decorating, purses, knitting and crochet, machine and hand embroidery, machine and hand appliqué, clothing sewing and alterations, beading, and many other needle arts.  Please give us a call, bring by a sampling of your work, and help inspire others through teaching. We would like to show you off at an upcoming Round About if you could get back to us very soon.
